Ad of the Week: Cheesy Advertising

Maybe it's because I'm hungry or maybe it's my need for cheese, but this week's ad of the week is brought to you by Kraft Singles. Grilled cheese sandwiches are part of a food grouping I call: an American childhood staple. I grew up dipping my grilled-to-perfection, steamy-melted cheese sandwiches into a bowl of my mother's freshly home-made tomato soup (if you've never experienced a wonder like that, you're doing it wrong). Kraft has brought that memory back to us in .gif form. Now, as we frantically search for information on Yahoo, a savory image of a smokin' grilled cheese…

Ad of the Week: Safety Dance 2K14

It brings me great joy to present to you the ad of the week this week! In honor of my travels to Nashville, I am excited to share one of my favorite viral digital ads that has no shame in putting some flare in the air! This past spring, Virgin America Airlines managed to spike the interest of 5.8 million YouTube viewers to watch airline safety. How did they do you this you ask? Well, they took the mostly boring, monotonous safety reading procedure that is required before every flight and turned it into an entertaining and very impressive song…

Meet HenkinSchultz: Paige, The Intern

My name is Paige Shafrath and I am the summer intern at HenkinSchultz. I am originally from Hampton, Iowa, which is a small town about an hour and a half north of Des Moines. No, I wasn't raised on a farm, however, you could find a field about a block from each side of my house. I started off my college career at Winona State University in Minnesota. I couldn't find a job in Winona the summer going into my junior year, so my brother suggested I move to Brookings, SD. After becoming best friends with my random roommates that…

Playlist of the Week: Spring 2014 Vibes

A few weeks ago, my splendid coworker Fletch crafted a solid little playlist to prepare us for spring. Little did we know that we would be in for at least 3 more weeks of chilly weather. That said, I thought maybe we can try this again with another mix that can perhaps help us transition into spring with some pizazz. So I gathered some of my favorites tunes to come out in 2014 thus far and loosely compiled them into somewhat of a cohesive playlist to help us bring those warm spring and summer vibes. It's a tad on the…

Ad of the Week: No Driving High

Marijuana has been legal for recreational use in Colorado for a couple of months now and the state's Department of Transportation has launched a new ad campaign to discourage residents from smoking and driving high. CDOT's (Colorado Department of Transportation) new "Drive High, Get a DUI" campaign, which features commercials aimed at men aged 21 to 34 - the demographic with the highest number of DUIs, started earlier this month. From 2006 through 2012, about half of drivers involved in a fatal car crashes were tested for drugs. About 11 percent of those drivers tested positive for marijuana, according to…

Ad of the Week: Ikea In RGB

In both marketing and interior design, few things are more limiting than space. Whether that be fitting a novel's worth of content into a quarter-page ad or transforming a studio apartment from a jail cell into a home, one's eyes are almost always bigger than their stomach in terms of creativity and imagination. Ikea was faced with this exact dilemma when figuring out how to effectively convey its brand message within a 9-meter billboard. Instead of settling for a quick-hitting headline, they decided to triple their ad space - without tripling the size of their media budget. How, you ask? There was no black magic or…

Ad of the Week: Those Dogs at Subaru

When you think of the typical Subaru driver, you may perhaps associate them with certain qualities: They shop at Whole Foods, wear brands like Patagonia and Teva, enjoy the outdoors (or at least pretend to) and bring their furry, slobbering friends along for rides. Subaru is not only embracing their stereotype, but they've taken it to a whole new level with their new ad campaign, Meet the Barkleys. And by whole new level, I actually mean whole new breed. The Barkleys are in fact a family of dogs. Subaru has long been known for its dog-friendly ways. But these dogs…
