Growing the Seed of a Design Idea
Every year, Teddy Bear Den hosts their Annual Celebrity Night Out event, a local celebrity auction. HenkinSchultz has been involved for years – helping support this worthy organization.
The Teddy Bear Den is an incentive and education program for limited-income pregnant women and their children. Their mission is to promote healthier pregnancies, healthier babies and an overall healthier community. Each year some of Sioux Falls’ and South Dakota’s best known business people, politicians and personalities gather to support the Teddy Bear Den.
As with any charitable event, the challenge is always getting people’s attention to save the date. The Teddy Bear Den has a generous and faithful support base, but each year, we challenge ourselves to design something new to capture their interest. For many years, we designed based on the theme of really cute babies and great photography. This year we embraced an inspired woodsy design. But still kept cute babies!
One of our designers fell in love with photos of babies in animal hats and used that as inspiration. She emphasized woodland creatures in the design and while scanning some nursery signs discovered, “Small seeds grow big trees.” We reflected back on what the Teddy Bear Den was all about – growing strong, healthy babies.
From there, we played off the evergreen trees and tan colors mixed with a green and rustic look for the overall design. The unique invitation fold “grew” into a big tree for this reason as well. We carried out the entire theme with the save the date, invites, program, PowerPoint slides, name badges, table tents and tickets.
This type of design is exceptionally fun. And cute babies are great. But doing it all for a great cause is even better!
