Millennium and HS create BINfluencers, put recycling in its place

Located in Sioux Falls, Millennium Recycling’s goal is to increase the recycling rate through education and innovation. They approached HS to help educate consumers on single-stream recycling and what can and cannot be placed in bins.

The challenge: turn the tide of the discussion around recycling from “old news” to a topic worth talking about. In addition, with Sioux Falls’ incredible growth and incoming new residents, many—old and new—were simply confused about what can be put into their bins.

HS created the BINfluential and BINfluencer campaigns to encourage families and their children to recycle the right way and take pride that they are influencing other families to do the same.

By leaning into kids’ love of YouTube videos and aspirations to be influencers, HS created a number of fun, educational videos with playful graphics and simple instructions to sort out the confusion about recycling. In addition, we recruited local celebrities and influencers to be featured in our billboard campaign.
