Ava’s creativity and design talent elevates results for our clients, and her can-do attitude is wonderful to have around the HenkinSchultz office. We wanted to know more about how she approaches graphic design as a profession, so we decided to ask her a few questions related to her experience.
What do you get to do in your role as a Graphic Designer?
I work on a wide variety of designs, from print posters to digital ads, to logos and establishing a look and feel for a brand. It’s always rewarding when I spot a piece of my design out in the wild, fully realized.
Why are visually attractive brand elements and illustrations important?
You can’t, or at least shouldn’t, fill up a billboard with a giant logo. Design elements like illustration style, photography style, patterns, or even texture are a great way to make sure your brand has enough meat on the bones to fit on all shapes and sizes of advertisements. Plus, illustrations are just plain fun to look at!
How does working with a team at HS help elevate your work?
Graphic design is a collaborative medium. You need to not only design something pretty, but something that will sell and make sense! It’s great to have an experienced team to run ideas past, to make sure you’re hitting the right target.
When do you feel success at your job?
Starting off a project with a blank page is always intimidating. It’s always a huge weight off your shoulders when the first round of review goes well! It gives a bit more time to fine-tune what was pitched and really get the project going strong.
What kind of art do you like outside of work?
Ever since I was a kid, I have been super interested in animation! I love every step of the process, from visual development to storyboarding, to tie-downs and compositing. Once you’re familiar enough with animation, you can pick favorite artists and directors and follow their work! Satoshi Kon was a favorite director of mine, and his film “Paprika” was the inspiration for “Inception.” I’m also a big fan of “Bojack Horseman” with Will Arnett and “Owl House” by Dana Terrace.
