Think. Bigger. Where Art and Strategic Thinking Meet.

HenkinSchultz has always worked with clients to help them make a big impression – both to their customers and their own employees. Like all businesses, we need to stop and take a look at ourselves too. Until recently, when we looked at our massive HS Sign Shop wall, we saw only gray concrete. The Origin of Think. Bigger. HS has tackled some pretty monumental visual displays. Still, we know we couldn’t carve Mount Rushmore in our basement. But you better believe we could print it. And that’s exactly what we did. President Kirby Schultz summarizes our long-term agency philosophy as…

HenkinSchultz Celebrates 11th Annual Christmas Windows Lighting

As a creative company, HenkinSchultz knows one of the hardest things to do these days is get people’s attention. For the past 11 years, HS has been getting the attention of 69th and Western traffic with its elaborate Christmas windows displays. And we’re not just talking lights and garland. Making Art Out of Our Space HS debuted their window videos Tuesday evening much to the delight of passers by. This year’s video features everything from the Augustana Orchestra to crazy Christmas carolers, mysterious monsters, a car-driving dog and even a high-flying ninja. The advertising agency also set up a ‘radio’…

Time to Plan Your 2019 Strategy

There. We said it. 2018 was a fast one. And while there are lots of upcoming holidays to slow down for and enjoy, there’s also planning to be done for 2019. So set aside some time for that awesome Thanksgiving leftover sandwich, but also some strategic thinking too. How were your 2018 sales to date? Any surprises good or bad? What trends did you see in your projections? What are industry partners or vendors anticipating for 2019? What marketing tactics do you need to pull the trigger on? Or cut back? All of these questions start to paint a picture.…

Buche Foods – When PR isn’t just valuable, it’s life changing.

For 113 years, Buche Foods of Wagner has provided fresh, quality food at a fair price. The Wagner, South Dakota company has a long history of operating in Native American country and reservation communities. When the lease of Pine Ridge’s only grocery store came up for bid, they saw an opportunity to not only serve but also provide an essential lifeline for the town. The existing grocery store had a troubled history of dated food, health violations and even a shutdown, which put many lives at risk. Understanding the complexities of reservations and tribal rule, Buche Foods knew they had…

The HS Rebrand – Why the New Look?

In our recent blog, we launched a new video to introduce HS into our design and brand as we continue celebrating 27 years. Yes, 27 is an odd number. But then again, we’re kind of an odd bunch. Remember Hamster Stacking? HamsterStacking was actually the first introduction of the HS refresh followed by the HearSay video poking some fun at our name confusion. Kirby Schultz himself can tell you about the mail he’s received and the name scrambling has been epic. So it seemed a good time to consider just how do we refer to ourselves? And how do we show it? This new…

What’s in a Name? Hear What HS Clients Have to Say.

HenkinSchultz celebrates 27 years in business this year. That means 27 years of hamster stacking, great client interactions, and occasionally a bit of confusion about the names of our founders. We launched our recent Hamster Stacking campaign to emphasize HS into our design and brand. As we continue our promotional campaign in outdoor, digital and television, we thought it would be a great time to hear from our clients. Watch the video now and hear what HS clients have to say. Storytelling – and Why it is So Very Important

At the annual chamber meeting, Matthew Luhn emphasized storytelling. At HenkinSchultz, it's something we emphasize with our clients every day. Often times, marketing is very focused on the finer points of sales, discounts, and promotions. These are all necessary things. But ideally, any benefits should be wrapped in a great story. Think about it, a great story pulls you in from the beginning. You are listening actively. You become emotionally invested in the characters and what they do. What a powerful tool to bring to any form of advertising. One example this past year is Showplace Cabinetry. Showplace has beautifully…

Inspiration & Imagination Highlight 112th Annual Sioux Falls Chamber Meeting

The Sioux Falls Chamber celebrated their 112th annual meeting and HenkinSchultz was a part of the storytelling from start to finish. Matthew Luhn was the evening’s featured speaker, sharing insights and inspiration from over 20 years of creating stories and characters at Pixar Animation. HamsterStacking: A Wild Week

How something silly, was really quite strategic.  Why HamsterStacking? It's a fun way to describe what HenkinSchultz does. We organize lots of moving marketing pieces in a fun way. We solve problems. We stack hamsters. By making Hamster Stacking an issue, we were able to capitalize on the political season. Graphics were created. Billboard space was purchased. A website was born. And a public relations response was put in place. Oh yeah, we even made yard signs too. Getting Attention with Intention Getting attention is often the easy part. But you must do it with specific intention. To pull this…

Hamster Stacking Campaign Revealed as Ad Agency Promotion, HS Celebrates 27 Years.

You may have seen the curious billboards for Vote YES on Hamster Stacking. HenkinSchultz set out to prove that clever messaging still gets attention and can get people talking. The campaign included a city-wide billboard campaign, digital strategy and a website. “Hamster stacking is one way we describe what we do, kind of like herding cats. In marketing, there are always pieces moving in every direction from traditional to digital, new technologies and new strategies. We can help manage or ‘stack’ those pieces, with great results for businesses,” says Becka Burger, Partner, Director of Client Services. HS introduced the fictional…
